Delegates who signed up for the tours as part of the joint North American Anthropology and African Studies Association conference Africa in the World: Shifting Boundaries and Knowledge Production visited notable heritage sites and spaces in Johannesburg including the gentrifying streets of Braamfontein, the Origins Centre Museum, the Constitution Hill precinct, and Wits Art Museum. The tours were led by scholars and colleagues from the Wits City Institute (Honorary Research Fellow Melissa Myambo), the University of the Witwatersrand (Origins Centre Curator Tammy Hodgskiss), and the City of Johannesburg (CoJ Head of Heritage Eric Itzkin).
Delegates on the visit to the Wits Art Museum were able to view Ross Passmoor’s exhibition Afterlife, which featured works showing in partial fulfilment of his PhD.
